Learning is a funny thing. We have formalised a sytem of classrooms, evaluation, experts and students that can often reduce our opportunities to help others learn as well as limiting our own ability to learn
Last week I wrote about 3 things I learned about change from my daughter and next week we’ll have an excellent guest post where the love of an old Landrover was a catalyst for learning.
Learning happens everywhere, all the time.
If you are breathing you have the capacity to learn and help others learn
Another great example is a recent post by Gill over at the Leaps and Bounds blog. A Skype conversation with colleagues included a story about a 6 year old dismantling a bed. The reactions of the adults hearing the story and Gill’s reflection on the event, lead her to three three things we could all do for our families, friends, and work colleagues to help rekindle that ability to learn every day in whatever we’re doing.
Give people opportunities to make mistakes…
When people do make mistakes look first for the positive intention behind their action…
When you you think of the positive intention it will help you to be able to respond rather than react…
Head on over and read her full post “It’s ok, I’m just learning…”
Here’s a fun call to action for you all:
- Over the next few days just notice other people, their behaviour and their actions
- Look behind the actions to their intentions and respond with consideration and support
